MSJ is a small, local, independent health and safety consultancy, based in Guildford, Surrey. Our health and safety consultants cover clients primarily in Surrey, adjoining counties and Greater London.
We work with both small businesses and large corporations in a variety of industries.
Our success has been built on collaborating closely with our clients to ensure potential risks are identified and pragmatic solutions developed, tailored to our clients needs.
We offer very reasonable rates with no up-front fees or direct debits.
The history of MSJ Safety
MSJ Safety was established by Mel and Simon Judd in 2019 after spending many years working for large, corporate health and safety consultancies that left many small businesses dissatisfied with the service. These consultancies had an aggressive sales force and often provided a good service at first, then left clients paying monthly direct debits for little or no service whatsoever, tying them up to 5-year contracts they couldn’t get out of. Tired of hearing the same complaints over again, we wanted to provide a first-class service, where every client counts.
That’s why, at MSJ, we put clients first. We listen to your needs and deliver smart, cost-effective solutions to meet those needs. We can offer on-going support or one-off jobs with no up-front fees or direct debits. We offer a very reasonable day rate and you only pay for what you get, once you’re happy with the service.

All the MSJ Safety team are qualified and experienced to at least CMIOSH level and have worked both in-house and as independent health and safety consultants in a wide range of industries. You can be assured that you will receive reliable, good quality, professional advice to ensure your business meets current legislation and best practice.

Melanie Judd
Melanie is a CMIOSH qualified senior health and safety manager with over 20 years’ experience. Melanie can provide specialist advice to scientific, technical or research organisations, but also has experience in a wide range of industries including:
- higher education/research
- facilities and estates
- warehousing/logistics
- leisure
- healthcare
- manufacturing
- engineering and construction
Melanie has previously worked as a chemical, biological and radiation safety officer in university research laboratories and can provide specialist advice in this area. She also enjoys working with small businesses across all sectors.

Simon has provided design safety support in the construction of Hinkley Point C nuclear power station. Simon specialises in:
